The holy Qur’an is the book of Allah which reveals abundantly the virtue of acting according to the way God and of regarding this world as a stepping stone to the next world (al-Akhira). The Holy Qur’an is Al- burhan “the proof” and Al-Furqan “the distinction”. It is a distinction between truth and falsehood, right and wrong.
In one hundred and fourteen surah of the Qur’an, the Qur’an was revealed to the prophet Muhammad, the last of the prophet of Allah, as a complete code of life. It present clearly the intellectual and moral bases of the Islamic shari’a and strengthen them with argument and appeals to the heart.
It clearly defines and limit the bounds of every aspect of life without giving detailed regulation and laws. The Islamic Umma has been blessed by Allah with the greatest and the last of the messenger in the person of Holy prophet Muhammad who was entrusted with the task of setting up the person of life for individual believer, for the Islamic state and Islamic society at large.
In other words, it was the prophet Muhammad whi demonstrated its teaching by putting them into actual practice.
In fact, the words and deeds of the prophet can be considered as the best interpretation (sharh) of the Holy Qur’an. The Holy Qur’an provides the code of ethics for the individual and for society and the structure for Islamic commonwealth. This is the reason why the Holy Qur’an is the primary source of the fiqh in Islam.
